- Every cell in the grid can be in one of two states: "live" or "dead".
-
- All cells are initially dead (unless you double-clicked on a pattern
-
- file to start up LifeLab). To change the state of an individual cell,
-
- move the cursor over the desired cell and click. To change the state
-
- of many cells at once, drag the mouse while holding down the button.
-
- A pattern exists if there is at least one live cell in the grid.
-
-
-
- More complicated editing operations can be performed on a selected
-
- region of cells. To make such a selection, shift-click within the grid,
-
- drag the cursor and then release the mouse button. The selected
-
- rectangle is indicated by reverse highlighting.
-
-
-
- If a selection does exist then you can use commands in the Edit menu
-
- to cut or copy it for later pasting, clear it, fill it randomly, flip it
-
- horizontally or vertically, or rotate it by 90 degrees. See also the
-
- "Handy Hints" topic for some useful editing tips.
